Strikingly accurate down to the very last detail–and incorporating an astounding aging process to duplicate the effects of the explosive years Eddie Van Halen spent on the original–the Eddie Van Halen Frankenstein(TM) replica guitar will be limited to only 300 instruments. No effort has been spared to mirror every last scratch, ding and cigarette burn; Fender designers even scoured the land for 1971 quarters (that’s the right year), just like the original he at one time stuck under the original tremolo bridge. While Eddie no longer uses the quarter for that purpose, it’s still one of the guitar’s most recognizable appointments, and still adorns Ed’s baby, as well as each and every Frankenstein(TM) replica guitar.

White with red tortoise-pearl pickguard, 2 single coil pickups, F-key tuners, F-series neck plate, Dynamic Fender Vibrato, Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, Two slider switch On-Off-Phase for each of the two pickups. Neck stamped May, 1966. This one has seen some use, so check the photos carefully. A small piece of the pickguard is missing, lots of checking in the finish as well as some nicks and scratches. Still plays and sounds wonderful.

The instrument has been given our “Relic” treatment to show years of natural wear and tear—nicks, scratches, worn finish, rusty hardware and aged plastic parts.

The two-piece select alder body has a black nitrocellulose lacquer finish with white binding on the top and back, and three-ply parchment pickguard. The C-shaped maple neck has a 9.5”-radius, Indian rosewood round laminate fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and wide-spaced white dot inlays. Other features include a pair of vintage ’63 Tele single-coil pickups with three-way switching, nickel/chrome hardware, Fender/Gotoh® vintage-style tuning machines, a vintage-style Telecaster bridge with three threaded steel saddles and “ashtray” cover, and a Fender Custom Shop limited edition decal.

The Fender Custom Shop announces a limited-edition run of 200 of these gorgeous 1967 Telecaster Firemist Silver Metallic Closet Clasic LTD guitars.

This Team-built guitar features the “Closet Classic” treatment—built as if it was bought new in its respective model year, played maybe a few times per year and then carefully put away. It has a few small dings, a mildly checked finish, lightly oxidized hardware and aged plastic parts.
